Questionnaire
Questionnaire is used to get the data of the students‟
interest in listening to English songs. In this research, the question in the
questionnaire is written in Bahasa in order to make the respondents answered
the questions easily. The questionnaires consist of thirty two questions in the
form of multiple choices. In this part, the researcher asks the students to
choose one option that they agree with. All questions is represented their
interest in English song. Each question consists of four (4) options of the
answer: A, B, C and D, which indicated the degree of respondents.
To make easy in determining the interval of the score,
all answer of the questionnaire would be changed become Likert scale. A Likert
scale assessed attitude toward a topic and asking respondents to indicate for
each whether they strongly agree, agree, are uncertain, or disagree. Based on
Likert scale, the score of each student would be marked as follows:

Vocabulary
test
Here the
researcher uses vocabulary test to measure students’ vocabulary mastery. In
this research the researcher applied 40 items of test. The form of test is
multiple choice test that consisted of a, b, c, or d answer. The following is
the formula to score students‟ vocabulary mastery:
Students’ score: Student’s correct answer x 100

Validity
The validity of the test material in this study would
be checked through by uses SPSS 20.0 to do validity of the test, the steps of
program SPSS 20 are:
- Open program SPSS 20 for windows.
- Turn on variable view and define each column
- After filling Variable View, click Data View, and fill in the data
tabulation of test.
- Click the Analyze menu, select Correlate, and select Bivariate.
- After that will be appear dialog box Bivariate Correlate. Move all
items (item 1 to 22 and Score total) to the Variables box. In the Correlation
Coefficients select Pearson, on the Test of Significance select the Two-Tailed,
then select the Flag significant correlation
- Click OK, to end the command. See appendix to result the validity.
To
identify whether an item test was valid or not, can be done by looking at the
value of the significance or compare the value rxy with r table product moment.
Based
on the the significant value obtained by the sig. (2-tailed) of 0.00 <0.05,
so it can be concluded to item 3 was valid. In this research the r table product
moment 5% significance with N = 22, then the value will be r-table product
moment equal to 0.423.
e)
Reliability
The
reliability of the test material in this study would be checked through by uses
SPSS 20.0 to do reliability of the test, the steps of program SPSS 20 are:
1)
Turn
on the SPSS program and select the Variable View, furthermore, in the Name
write item_1 to item_32. In the Decimals change all is the number 0.
2)
Click
the Data View fill in the answer of the test.
3)
Select
Analyze, and then click Scale, and then click the Reliability Analyze
4)
Then
a new dialog box will appear with the name of Reliability Analyze, and then
enter up to items: item-1 until 32 to box, then in the Model select Alpha.
5)
The
last step click OK to terminate the command, after which it will appear SPSS
output, as follow:
|
Cronbach's Alpha
|

|
|
.925
|

|
From the output of Reliability Statistics obtained
Cornbach’s Alpha value 0.925>0.423, based on the basis of decision-making in
the reliability test can be conducted that this research instrument reliable,
where as a high level of reliability.
2)
Experimental
research: The Effectiveness of Using
Small Group Discussion In Teaching Reading Comprehension in The Eleventh Grade
of Man 2 Karanganyar In 2018/2019 Academic Year

b)
The
content of the instrument :
The research instrument used by the researcher in
collecting the data is post-test. Before treatment, the researcher using pre-test
to knew ability from the students. Post-test was conducted in order to know the
changeable on students reading comprehension material between learning process
with Small Group Discussion and learning process through Lecturing Method.
Reading test in the form of multiple choice consist of 25 items. This test can
be used to measure the learning outcome which relates to aspects of memory,
comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
The researcher created the test based on syllabus
which suitable with curriculum of MAN 2 Karanganyar. In composing the test the
researcher also consider the indicators that must be reached by eleventh grade
students especially in reading skill. Test is used to measure student ability
after given treatment, is students score increase, it can be concluded that the
technique is effective.

d)
Validity
Every test, either it is a short, informal classroom
test or a public examination should be as valid as the test constructor can
make it. The test must aim to provide a true measure of the particular skill
which is intended to measure.
Heaton (1998: 159) states, “The validity of a test is
the extent to which it measures what it is supposed to measure and nothing
else.” There are three kinds of validity that consist of content validity,
construct validity, and empirical validity.
To obtain the data about the comparison between Small
Group Discussion and Lecturing Method on teaching reading comprehension, the
writer acquired to show each score. It will using pertaining to the most
important characteristic of an item to be accurately determined by its
difficulty. Then, the tests given to students were considered too difficult or
too easy often show the low reliability. Item difficulty was held pertinent to
the index difficulty, in which it is generally expressed as the percentage of
the students who answer the question correctly (Heaton, 1991: 178).
The steps of validity test, as follows:
-

Analyze
-
Then,
choose Scale
-
Then,

-

Statistics, in Descriptive for klik scale if item deleted
-

e)
Reliability :
Sahu (2013: 97) Reliability refers to consistency and
authenticity in responses. Consistency means the respondent should not provide
a different answer every time the same question is asked by investigators in
different forms for a particular problem. An instrument is consistent if its
response remain same under repeated observations, essentially under the same
condition. Authentic informations obtained from a source which has the
authority and credential to report about the problem. To verify the reliability
of the responses, particular in the social science researchers, there should be
provosion for cross-checking the responses in the methods of collection of
information.
The steps of realibility test, as follows:
- Click Analyze
- Then, choose Scale
- Then, reliability analysis
- Click Statistics, in Descriptive for klik scale if item deleted
- Click continue
